Steps
- Create dedicated stock.warehouse or location representing 3PL physical site.
- Define message formats: outbound order, ASN, receipt, inventory adjustment, shipment confirm.
- Map Odoo stock.picking types for dropship or delivery to 3PL reference fields.
- Send lot and serial requirements when 3PL handles tracked products.
- On confirmation, update picking state and package tracking via API callback.
- Schedule inventory sync job comparing 3PL snapshot CSV to stock.quant quantities.
- Exception queue for short ships, overages, and damaged goods with quality holds.
Common mistakes
- Treating 3PL stock as non-tracked while selling tracked SKUs.
- No reconciliation job so drift accumulates for months.
- Sending pickings before credit or allocation rules pass in Odoo.
- Mismatch on UoM case vs each between systems.
- Hard-coding credentials in custom modules instead of ir.config_parameter secrets.
Odoo version notes
3PL integration is custom or iPaaS for Odoo 16–18 regardless of edition. Enterprise barcode does not replace 3PL WMS APIs. Wholesale distributors often use scheduled jobs on Odoo.sh with queue_job OCA. Validate lot fields in API contracts when upgrading Odoo major versions.
